Talking Business with….Victoria Angove and Louisa Rose
Victoria Angove
Director, Angove Family WinemakersAt the beginning of 2000, Victoria took up a position as one of the coordinators of the International Wine and Spirit Challenge in London. Working here, she gained a solid understanding of the extent of the wine and spirit trade in the world, and its staggering diversity. Whilst her fascination with the wine business grew stronger, her love for the English climate did not. At the end of 2000, Victoria returned home to Australia. With the company undergoing rapid development in Sales and Marketing, Victoria was soon responsible for exports to Europe and Asia as one of the company’s Regional Export Managers. Victoria’s activities in Asia saw the company add many new countries to it’s distribution base, namely China, India, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, whilst developing existing business through the region. Victoria was appointed as a Director on the Board in February 2006.
Louisa Rose
Winemaker, Yalumba and Hill Smith Family VineyardsIn October 2008 Louisa was named ‘Winemaker of the Year’ by the prestigious Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine – This award was swiftly followed in the same month by the Wolf Blass Award for contribution to the development and promotion of Riesling, which also proudly sits alongside Louisa’s 2004 acknowledgement by International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) as winner of the 2004 Women in Wine Award, and her Barossa Winemaker of the Year Award in 1999. It is not only her role as Chief Winemaker with Australia’s oldest family owned winemaker which keeps Louisa busy. Commencing as an Australian Wine Show Judge in 1997, Louisa is now heavily involved in judging at both Australian and International Wine Shows, and will be stepping in to the role of Chair of Judges at the Perth Royal Wine Show in September 2009 – the first female winemaker to do so on the Australian National Wine Show circuit.
